Jorge Moll, A Unique and Brilliant Neuroscientist03.06.18

Jorge Moll is a Brazilian neuroscientist. He worked hard to fulfill a passion to help people from his home country who suffer from medical problems. He earned his M.D. in Neuroscience from Federal University of Rio De Janiero, and his Ph.D. in Expiremental Pathphisiology from Sao Paulo University. He went on to create his own research institute, D’Or Institute of Research and Education which he launched in his home country of Brazil. Moll is also the director of the Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience Institute (CBNU).

Moll is a brilliant businessman who is full of new, innovative ideas about research (Interview). He meets and collaborates with his team daily, as well as students and other professionals. He believes that working together with different people and considering their ideas is what leads to success. Moll believes that coming up with new ideas is usually the easy part of any process. The hard part is figuring out which of them can be most practically put into action.

For Moll, simplicity is key–you take a great idea, put it into action, and see whether or not it works. If it does, then you have just accomplished something great. If it doesn’t, you learn from the mistake, move on, and don’t constantly repeat the same mistakes. It’s a simple business model (as well as a simple life model) that has lead to his overwhelming success.

Although simplicity is the business model, it doesn’t mean that the work itself isn’t challenging. Moll believes that challenges lead to bigger payoffs and that in scientific academia and the scientific industry isn’t challenging enough and hinders scientific innovation. Moll aims to challenge and improve his area of expertise by keeping his work interesting and fresh. It is this pursuit of scientific innovation, paired with a plan to listen to those around him and keep his plans of action simple and the work challenging that will continue to make Jorge Moll one of the top neuroscientists in the world.
